2-piece multi-purpose silicone trivet set

6.90 inch/17.5 cm diameter

available at The Bay.

I value a tool with versatility. These trivets take up very little space in my kitchen drawer, so I can pop them out when I need to hold a bowl in place when tempering milk into a custard or pastry cream, and then I set the hot bowl of cooked custard on it to cool. Easier to wash than fabric pot holders, these are great for grabbing hot pans from the oven.

A heat resistant set of flexible silicone trivets can be used for holding bowls in place, resting hot pots or as pot holders.

anna's top tips

  • Tempering is the process of evening out temperatures. When making a custard, you need to gradually add the hot milk to the cool eggs while whisking, to prevent the eggs from curdling or scrambling.
  • On a bit of a baking frenzy and used up all of your cooling racks? Set these 2 trivets side by side to hold a baking tray hot from the oven.
