There’s a certain aesthetic appeal to a cooling rack that I like. I prefer a grid pattern to my rack so that cooling items don’t slip off of the rack, and the feet of this rack have good height, letting the air circulate around the pan well to cool it quickly.

anna's top tips

  • A cooling rack has uses beyond holding hot pans for cooling on the counter. I rest cakes or breads for glazing on the rack set over a baking sheet, and I also use it for my Crispy Baked Chicken Wings
  • When cooling a cake, you should first cool it for 15-20 minutes in its pan on a cooling rack - while hot from the oven, the cake is fragile and can break if tipped out right away. After 15-20 minutes of cooling, then the cake needs to be turned out of its pan onto the rack, to prevent moisture or condensation from forming in the tin, creating a sticky surface to the cake.
