Use and Care Instructions

For extended care instructions for your board, please [see here]

All wood boards need special care since they are porous. To care for your natural wood board, please follow the steps below to enjoy your board for many years of use.

Before first use:

  • Wash your new board before using it for the first time.
  • Moisturize your board’s surface with special wood beeswax or food safe mineral oil.
  • Dry your board immediately and thoroughly after washing.

Tips and care instructions to extend the product’s useful life:

  • When oiling the board, it must be sufficiently and evenly moisturized on a regular basis, to keep it healthy.
  • It is not recommended using cooking oil (vegetable or other) to moisturize your board as it might turn rancid with time.
  • After washing the board, dry it immediately and thoroughly so that it does not soak up too much water.
  • Once visible water is removed, place it on its side to dry and not flat.
  • If there is a small amount of moisture that is allowed to sit on top or in the well of the cutting surface, it might dry unevenly and cause more “tightening” on one side more than on the other and that will cause it to warp. It is recommended to dry the board immediately after each use.
  • When storing the board, it is always preferable to stand it offonff its side.
  • If the board is kept in a dry area (near a heater or a gas burning oven), we recommend moisturizing it more often.  If the air in the room is dry, especially during the winter months, it will accelerate the drying process.
  • To sanitize, wash the board periodically with an equal mixture of vinegar and water.
